Description

speak out a new word beginning with the last letter of the previous word. students sit down if they are slow.

Details

This game is similiar to Speed Shiritori except there is no running around.

Shiritori is a well known game in Japan where players take turn speaking a word that starts with the last letter of the previous word. For example,
cow -> wood -> door -> rain -> normal -> l.....

In a class room, ask if the students know shiritori and do an example with English words on the board. Explain that each student has only 5 seconds to say a correct word. They should all be standing to start and if someone makes a mistake or takes too long, that person must sit down. Keep going until there is only one student standing.

Additional

Can be used in an 1-on-1 situation where the student and teacher (or other student) take turns until they get stuck. See how long you can go or how many words you can get. Words could be categorized so only animals or nouns or places can be used to add some difficulty and / or enjoyment.
