Yatsubuchi-no-taki
On the third of June, Donny, D and myself went to Shiga prefecture to hike up 8 waterfalls. This hike was one of the best hikes we've done in Japan. It was a bit challenging at times but well worth the effort. After hiking up 8 waterfalls we pressed on and climbed up a few mountains. Walking along the ridge that connects the montain tops we were able to see Lake Biwa in all it's glory.
We started the hike in a small town called Kurodani. After stepping off the bus we headed straight into a little bread cafe and had breakfast. We ate toasted homemade bread and salad whilst listening to classical music. It was a perfect start to an excellent hike. For the first 2 hours of the hike we followed the river closely, crossing and re-crossing it's path. The waterfalls were stunning. However, as you can see in the pictures, this hike is not for those who fear heights. There were a couple of points that were a little sketchy. Crossing some of the old rotten log bridges or ladders provided us with some challenges. After traversing the falls the hike became a little more straightforward and less dangerous. The hike up to and across the ridge provided us with excellent views of Lake Biwa. Breakfast of champions: We ate at this beautiful restaurant in Kuradani before heading up.
Signs, signs, everywhere!: Once again the signs provide accurate information.

Yikes!: Darren tests the first log bridge
Climbing the falls
Looking down at Donny: Hang on tight!
Be careful: slippery when wet
Beautiful
Ummm...
Piece of cake.
We could feel the mist
Well, at least we made it: Good luck Donny!
